Sofia Font is a dynamic leader and passionate advocate for building stronger, more connected communities. With over 20 years of international experience in both the public and private sectors, Sofia brings a unique blend of strategic vision, cultural understanding, and proven success in community outreach, engagement, and development. Her career reflects a deep commitment to empowering individuals, fostering collaboration, and creating opportunities for growth.
Sofia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Arts with a major in International Relations and a Master’s degree in International Business. As a former diplomat, she gained valuable experience working with global institutions, governments, and private organizations, developing strategies to address complex social and economic challenges. Fluent in Spanish, French, and Portuguese, Sofia’s multilingual abilities allow her to engage with diverse communities and create meaningful connections across cultures.
After moving to Houston, Sofia dedicated herself to working with nonprofit organizations, grassroots groups, and community leaders to connect people with essential resources and create opportunities for success. Her ability to build trust and foster collaboration has been key in establishing partnerships with civic groups, council members, private organizations, and government agencies. Her work has enhanced access to resources, strengthened social networks, and ensured that individuals have the tools and support needed to thrive.
Sofia has extensive expertise in community outreach and engagement, strategic planning, design communication campaigns, fundraising events, build strong partnerships, and economic community development. She excels at identifying needs, developing tailored solutions, and executing high-impact programs that drive meaningful results. Her strategic approach to communication and outreach ensures that messages resonate with the community, fostering increased participation and long-term engagement.
As a mother of two, Sofia understands the importance of empowering future generations. She has led initiatives to provide educational resources and support for children and families, helping them navigate challenges and build resilience. Her approach combines creativity, cultural sensitivity, and strategic thinking to deliver programs that are both impactful and sustainable.
Sofia’s leadership and unwavering dedication have earned her high recognition. In May 2024, she was honored with the Bravo Award from Mayor Whitmire — one of the highest honors awarded to city employees for outstanding service and impact. Her ability to drive results, build trust, and inspire others has made her a respected and influential figure in the community.
As the founder of this nonprofit, Sofia’s mission is clear: to empower individuals, strengthen communities, and create a legacy of opportunity and inclusion. Her work is guided by three core values:

Vice President
Julian Ochoa is an accomplished attorney with a Master’s in International Business from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain, in collaboration with Harvard Business School-Negotiating Program, and doctoral studies from the University of Salamanca Law school in Spain. With over 20 years of international experience, Julian has built an extraordinary career combining diplomacy, human rights advocacy, and community development.
Julian’s global journey includes significant roles with the United Nations Drugs and Crime Prevention in Vienna, Austria, and UNESCO in Paris, France, where he spent a combined 10 years addressing critical global challenges. He has led international negotiations and projects across Mexico, Salvador, Ecuador, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Colombia, Panama, Aruba, Thailand, Indonesia, Midle East, and Europe fostering a truly international perspective. His diplomatic work focused on human rights, criminal justice, and combating human trafficking while also promoting cultural preservation and inclusion. These experiences provided Julian with a profound understanding of global needs and the complexities of fostering sustainable development.
Since moving to the United States, Julian has dedicated his career to nonprofit organizations and government agencies, consistently championing vulnerable communities. His work has included leading programs in disaster preparedness, community resilience, advocacy, know your Rights, and access to essential resources. Notable initiatives include strategic outreach campaigns, leadership training, voter education programs, immigrant rights workshops, and environmental justice advocacy.
As Vice President of the Venezuelan American Center, Julian combines his passion for community organizing with his international expertise to create impactful programs that empower Venezuelan-American communities. His vision is to build a sustainable and inclusive environment where resilience and preparedness are central to community development. Through his leadership, the center focuses on fostering unity, celebrating diversity, and ensuring equitable access to resources for all.
Julian’s dedication to blending the best ideas and practices from around the world makes him a unique leader, committed to creating lasting, positive change. In his personal life, he enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife, Sofia, and their two daughters, Charlotte and Elizabeth.

Director Of Government Affairs
Jorge Márquez is a dedicated community leader, currently serving as the Director of Government Affairs at the Venezuelan American Center, an organization committed to fostering the integration of the Venezuelan community into American society. Through his extensive work with allied organizations and collaboration with U.S. government agencies, Jorge has established himself as a key figure in public affairs, known for his ability to navigate complex issues and build strong partnerships.
With a wealth of experience in inter-institutional collaboration and the development of impactful initiatives, Jorge excels at bridging diverse sectors and leading multidisciplinary teams. His efforts have driven projects that promote economic growth and strengthen Houston's social fabric.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jorge is a proud father. Parenthood has profoundly shaped his perspective, enhancing his empathy and deepening his commitment to creating a better future for all.
In 2009, he founded Dibujando Sonrisas while in Venezuela, an organization that made a lasting impact on the communities it served, reflecting his lifelong passion for social change.
Jorge firmly believes that respect for rules and laws is the foundation of global citizenship. His vision aligns with the Venezuelan American Center's motto: "Uniting Cultures, Strengthening Houston's Future."

Financial Officer
Cristina Bastidas brings extensive experience on managing financials on project/programs perspective from her Gas Compression Energy up to $220MM. She played a key role in managing projects cost, timelines and operational outcomes. Her professional journey began in Venezuela, where she contributed to a range of industries—starting with thermoelectric power plants—before discovering her passion for project management.
Cristina holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from La Universidad del Zulia”. In 2014, she relocated to the United States, embracing the challenge of adapting to a new society while rebuilding every aspect of her personal and professional life. Through perseverance and dedication, she immersed herself in understanding Houston’s systems—learning about local governance, career development programs, and the healthcare access.
Driven by a strong commitment to personal growth and community empowerment, Cristina has dedicated nearly a decade to helping others navigate their own integration and success stories to shape their own life goals. As one of the founding members of the Venezuelan American Center, she combines her professional skills with her passion for service, supporting VAC’s mission to strengthen community development and inclusion
